2020 MLK Parade Details

 

transportation options

  • Carpooling is encouraged

  • Parking on the street or in a parking lot may be an expense  (A major event will be taking place at the Spectrum Center, so parking rates will be higher than usual)

  • The Lynx Light Rail is available (If you ride the Lynx, get off at the 9th Street station)

  • In the event you choose not to park downtown or ride the Lynx Light Rail, we have a shuttle option from the Bob Walton Plaza (700 E. Stonewall Street, Charlotte, NC 28202)  The shuttle will be provided from the Bob Walton Plaza to College Street between the Charlotte Business License/Hal Marshall Building and the Mecklenburg County Vital Records/Hal Marshall Annex from 7:30-8:45am. 

  • There is NO PARKING at the Charlotte Business License/Hal Marshall Building or the Mecklenburg County Vital Records/Hal Marshall Annex Building. 

 Parade Details 

  • Our designated meeting area is the Charlotte Business License/Hal Marshall Parking lot (700 N. Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202)

  • Captains or Co-captains will receive their church team sign when you arrive to the Charlotte Business License/Hal Marshall Parking lot. 

  • The parade starts at 10am. The streets close at 9am. 

  • The distance of the walk is less than 1 mile. 

  • Warm-up will start at 9:30am. 

  • Please inform your diabetic participants to eat before they arrive as well as bring a snack/water with them. 

  • Participants who can’t walk can ride on Grier Heights, Antioch’s and a Mecklenburg County van will be available in the parade; however, seats are limited. Vehicles will be parked on N. Tryon Street between 10th and 11th Street. 

 Attire and Expectations 

  • All participants are asked to dress comfortably; wear their VHB T-shirt. 

  • The walk will take place rain or shine. Bring a raincoat or poncho. Note: Umbrellas are prohibited. 

  • If participants need to be shuttled back to the Bob Walton Plaza parking lot, they should meet along 3rd Street and S. Tryon Street at the conclusion of our walk in the parade.
